Can anyone recommend a good course of study for middle school zoology?
Q. We are homeschooling and our daughter is interested in studying zoology. I've tried searching for books, but all I seem to find are high-school and college level. Are there any good material out there (books, websites, software, etc.) that would make for a good starter course in zoology?

A. A Zoology course that has an Intelligent Design/Creationist viewpoint is offered by Apologia Publishing. They have a three-part Zoology course that was written for homeschool flexibility, (for instance if you had two children a couple years apart and wanted to teach their science together, you can do that.) So the books are adaptable for all upper elementary and middle school and can be taught in any order. Zoology 1 is flying creatures Zoology 2 is swimming creatures Zoology 3 is land animals The Apologia.com website has a really weird layout and they want you to log on to really see anything, and they charge full price too, so the "source" link (at the very bottom of my post) takes you to CBD instead where you can actually see the… [cont.]

Studying zoology in Ireland?
Q. I am young, but I want to study zoology in Ireland or if not then britain. Where is the best college for zoology and what are the subject requirements?
Asked by Only Sometimes - Mon Nov 6 15:45:52 2006 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can study Zoology at Trinity college in Dublin, N.U.I, Galway, and in U.C. Cork. Trinity College probably has the best reputation in Ireland. You do not specialize in zooology until your final year ( You must study it through an undenominated science degree programme). There are elements of zoology to other courses, such as marine science in N.U.I., Galway, enviornmental science etc.. you'll need a science subject at leaving cert, and about 350-420 points depending on the course.

A. of course there are. The easiest way to search for them would be to google "zoology scholarships". This should pull up websites that have scholarships available. You can then go to those websites and do a more exhaustive search. This is a great way to find scholarships; I did this for nursing scholarships and it worked wonderfully. Good Luck!

I've done some researches, and it seems like cornell, Oregon State and Washington are not some bad choices; however, I'm also wondering about Australia and England, they also seem very nice(the problem is I can find nothing about them). Would somebody please tell me where (U.S, England and Australia)do you think is the best to study zoology? I'm apparently more confused about this subject than I thought and I am having trouble figuring things out. I don't want to be limited to certain things such ecology and what not. A. Hi Nicolette. I'm actually a professor at Unity! You're right, we don't have a zoology major. The reality is that it matters very little what the words on your diploma say. What matters is what courses you take and the experiences you have (like in helping out with professors' research, doing your own research project, or doing an internship). Getting a degree in Wildlife, Wildlife Biology, Wildlife Conservation, Ecology, Environmental Biology, or Marine Biology would all prepare you for future work in Zoology. You can use your electives (credits that aren't pre-determined for general education or the major program) to take additional zoology courses to supplement whatever degree program you choose. If you look at the job… [cont.]

A. You could work as a science correspondant, you could be a science writer working as a consultant, you could get a job in sales of science products, you could get any of a number of medical-related degrees such as nursing, pharmacy, etc, physical therapy, laboratory technician, get your MBA and work for a pharmaceutical company, be a science teacher in grade school, high school, or trade school-If you are negating botany or zoology, that leaves most of the other options open, such as microbiology (bacteria), cell biology, genetics, organ-specific studies (neuroscience, cardiac science, etc), become a wildlife specialist...the list is longer, but the options are legion.

A. My friend has just completed her Zoology degree at Aberdeen and she loved every minute of it, there was also plenty of societies and clubs for her to be involved in too such as the Conservation Society or the Zoology society. But there are many more. this is the link to the School of Biological Sciences at Aberdeen Why Choose Aberdeen? 1 One of only three Universities in Britain that has a Zoology Department 2 Broad-based Honours degree in Zoology or the chance to specialise in areas such as Animal Ecology, Marine Biology, Parasitology or Immunology 3 Large Department of 28 teaching staff whose interests are diverse 4 High quality courses and 'Excellent' rating (Scottish Higher Education Funding Council Teaching Quality Assessment). A. Hi there, I'm a 4th year biology student at the University of Calgary. Although I do not major in Zoology, all of my bio courses are in zoo. First off...I love zoo. For me it is super interesting. When you go to university you will most likely do a general bio for the first year or 2. Then you get more control over what you get to take. Here are the general branches of biology: Cell and microbiology Biochemestry Botany Ecology Zoology I find Zoo to be the easiest...although probably because it interests me. Lab work is the best. Usually no lab reports if you study animals. (physiology has write ups) There is also a lot of field work available...although I think Ecology has more. To sum up, I think if you start with bio you will find… [cont.]

Q. Do zoology require the same amount of studying as anatomy and physiology does?
Asked by yahooanswers - Fri Jan 25 19:58:37 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would say it requires more studying, because you get to learn comparitive anatomy -- that's where you look at the anatomy of many (usually related) species. For example, we had line drawings of skulls on our exams, and had to identify order, family, genus and species. It was only mammals, but they made all the skulls the same dimensions so you had to know the differences between, say, a housecat and a bobcat.

A. None of us can really answer this one for you. There are a lot of things to consider - some of which might not be obvious. Not only do you have to consider the quality of the program itself (& specifically the area of zoology or biology you are interested in), you also need to consider your learning style. A big prestigious university might seem like the place to go. There will be lots of different types of classes and world renowned faculty. However, unless you're aggressive, you won't get personalized attention from them. A large university can be a good choice for someone who is self-motivated and can function independently. At the undergraduate level, you may find that a small college is best for you. The small college will not have as… [cont.]

A. Well it all depends on the type of job you get. Anyone of those studies can take you to different parts of the world. Get into some type of conservation job that takes you to remote places to help manage endangered animals. But I strongly suggest researching what type of zoology interest you the most then go from there.
