What is a good name for a self storage company?
Q. My brother-in-law just purchased a self storage company and needs a name. He was thinking of "Affordable Self Storage" since it is near the top of the list in the phone book and makes it sound affordable. Does any one have any comments or a unique name for the company?
Asked by Barkley Hound - Mon Dec 28 16:38:23 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. "Affordable Self Storage" is perfect. Too many people get caught up in how "cute" a name is (I spend a lot of time regretting my choice of business name). The only important thing is that it is easily recognizable and somewhat memorable.

Q. I got a lot of stuff I need to store some place. What are some tips and tricks about self storage.

A. Watch out for Public Storage's $1 move-in special. It is a big lie. Yes, the rent for the first month is only $1 but they add on a ton of other fees. There is an administration fee which cost me $20. And then I had to buy their insurance which was another $15. After this circus, I found a good site with some ideas for saving money on self storage.

Is it legal to store a gun in self storage?
Q. Just wondering. State: Arizona; does it vary from storage facility to storage facility if so do most restrict the storage of a firearm?
Asked by Panda - Fri Oct 16 15:19:42 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Each facility will have it's own rules as they are private businesses. They don't like to have them but most will not care (or put it in writing prohibiting). It's kind of like a don't ask and don't tell. Do know that even if they do - you will not be able to get insurance coverage in cases of theft.

what's the best self storage in princeton new jersey to store furniture?
Q. I am looking to store furniture from a one bedroom apt in princeton, new jersey. I am looking for a safe, secure storage facility
Asked by nycapartmentseeker - Tue Mar 24 12:48:31 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Always search for more than one company and compare service, prices and offers. Think about what's important to you:- - check out their security - most storage companies have excellent security, but it's best to check. - do you want the lowest price? - special offers? - how often will you need to access your belongings? - customer service? Self storage companies charge for the floor space you use, so get advice on how to best fill your room. Use the full height of the room and you'll save space and money. Get some boxes - your belongings will be better protected and you'll use the space more efficiently. I haven't used any storage in Princeton, but these links below may help you.

Anyone know of any self-storage companies that will ship your items as well?
Q. I am thinking about moving from Florida to Alaska and it very expensive to ship my small amount of items ($2500-3000). I was thinking if I could just store the items for a while until I got enough money to have them shipped. Does anyone know of a company that does this all for you? It hard to find someone to ship to Alaska in the first place. Pods don't go to Alaska.
Asked by Alison S - Tue Aug 11 20:19:58 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Your best bet might be shipping it, literally. Both Alaska and Florida are on the ocean, accessible to ocean-going ships. It might be possible to rent a shipping container, or just half of one, on a ship going from the gulf to Alaska. As far as leaving your stuff behind, shipping containers are able to be loaded on certain semi-trucks, so you could store it at a dedicated storage area. There's probably not a company to do this, but if you contact your nearest port, they should be able to help you. Here are two examples:

what do u think is a good price for those self storage places?
Q. i dont know anything about them and i need to store a couch and a few small things... do they have yearly rates? help me please
Asked by pam dawsonPI - Tue Nov 27 15:52:32 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Mine was monthly with a security deposit. That being said, I asked for a discount (which they gave me) by paying a year in advance. They come in different size spaces and they charge accordingly. I think I started with an 8 x 10 space and moved after the first year to a 12 x 14 as I starting storing more stuff. Ask what their smalles space is because you may be able to use the couch to stack your small items on top of to save some money.

What do you guys think about a self storage business?
Q. I am thinking about opening one. What are the pros and cons?
Asked by bobbyampm - Sun Apr 8 12:23:11 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. This is a tough one because of all the requirements that people are looking for nowadays. Call around and check out the competition to find out what they have to offer. You'll find most self storage spaces have heated and non-heated dry storage. There is a live in manager or person who lives on site for emergencies and problems. There are individual codes for each customer. There are electronic gates and 24/7 surveillance. You need competitive rates. You need spaces as little as 5x5 units to large rv/boat parking. Then you have to think about doing month-to-month rates and long-term rates. Have the computers and programs up to date to keep up with the volume. Then there is the cost of insurance for the property. All the normal start up… [cont.]

A. It would actually be cheaper to buy one and assemble it yourself. The only reason to build something like this yourself is if it is a design that is not readily available or you like to build things. Otherwise the prefab units are much cheaper. Go look at Home Depot, Lowes or even Sears. They all have units that will probably work for what you want. Prices range from a low of about $500 to $1500.

Are there self-storage companies in Puerto Rico?
Q. In the 50 states of the US, there are self-storage companies. U-Haul has some and there are others, with or without associated truck rental. Essentially you rent a space to store personal effects, furniture, etc., from about 4 x 4 feet up to the size of a garage, and have access during working hours, rarely 24-7. I believe there are few if any in South America, my present location. But what about Puerto Rico?

A. You can ask them to show legal papers that shows that they are legally allowed to operate, also you may try to visit their storage and see whether things are all in good shape, another thing is you should ask if there were hidden cost or any payments you may have that was not in the papers, its easy to do some homeworks on this one for its not that complicated.
