What indoor plants are good for the northern climates?
Q. Living in Canada, I need to know what indoor plants will be best for growth. Something that requires less sunlight and can survive the brisk winds that sometimes enter into the house.

A. We live in Washington, U.S. Our Ficus tree does very well even with the dark winter months. Believe it or not, our Date Palm is also doing fine (I feep it right near a picture window so that, when there is sun, it gets it). They keep our spirits up during the long winters.

Whats the difference between indoor and outdoor tanning lotion?
Q. Ok, so besides the obvious, that one is for indoor tanning and one for outdoor, and that outdoor lotion may or may not have SPF, what are the differences? Can one use outdoor tanning lotion in a tanning booth? Does one specifically need to buy indoor tanning lotion for a tanning booth?

A. outdoor lotions have mineral oil and other ingrediants that damage the acrlyics of the beds. they usually check lotions and salons and even if not you may have to pay alot of money to get the acrylics replaced if you ruin them with your cheap lotion. you can use an indoor lotion outdoors but not the other way around

Where do you buy indoor plants for your home?
Q. I am serious, I feel like I forgot some completely obvious source for indoor plants. I know that you can usually go to nurseries for outdoor plants, but most nurseries here (Maryland) are closed for the winter. So where do you go to buy healthy indoor plants?

A. anywhere! your local super market should have some (like Kmart, Walmart, Meijer, any of them!) or a Franks Nursery, Home Depot maybe... or look in your phone book for some plant shops, even the ones that sell/deliver flowers would have them. or put out and ad somewhere for any clippings. What digital camera takes good indoor photos?
Q. Hi, I'm looking for a regular point-and-shoot digital camera and I was wondering which one takes the best indoor photos? My Kodak camera I currently have takes horrible indoor photos and they always turn out yellowish and grainy. I would prefer a Sony, Canon, or Nikon that is under $120. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

A. I would suggestion these are good quality digital cameras with price around $100-$120. 1.Canon PowerShot A495 : 10.1 MP, 3.3x Optical Zoom, 2.5-Inch LCD, Smart AUTO intelligently selects from 18 predefined shooting situations, new scene modes deliver more creative freedom, etc. 2.Nikon Coolpix S3000 : 12.0MP, 4x wide-angle Zoom, 2.7-inch LCD, 4-way VR Image Stabilization System, EXPEED Image Processing, Smart Portrait System, etc. (Announced : February, 2010) 3.Sony DSC-S2100 : 12.1MP, 3x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, Easy Shooting Mode simplifies camera operation; SteadyShot image stabilization helps prevent blur, iAuto automatically optimizes camera settings, etc.

Is an indoor apartment complex a fun place to live in? What could be the disadvantages?
Q. Ok there is an apartment complex where you access the apartment through the inside like a hotel complete with elevators and hallways. It has indoor pools and community room. It is a gated complex with code acess along with nice landscaping on the outside. So other than a weird smell in the hallways could there be other disadvantages to living in a place like this?

A. That's actually sounds like a fairly decient place. There are plenty of buildings where you would want to have no part of. There are two large apartment buildings in my city. One of them the rent was alittle too high for me but sounded a lot like what you described. The place is very well kept and I actually know someone living there who has no complaints. A place like that your biggest complaint might be the neighbors always asking you to turn down the music, everything else would be handled by managment,

What do you think of an indoor playground for young children?
Q. I am thinking of starting an indoor playground for young children ages 0-5. We have an indoor playground in our area but most of the children are older and I am terrified to bring my younger children there. I have extensive child care experience so I am also thinking about offering playdates and Mommy & Me and Daddy & Me groups on specific days. My question is what are your thoughts on this concept?
Asked by Missy Gilbert - Tue Dec 15 08:57:35 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. We have one in our area, and I LOVE it! Ours has a separate area only for children under 3 years old, which I think is a good idea (maybe a better idea than not allowing children under 5 in the whole place, because that may deter parents with several children from coming, if older siblings are not allowed). Some other things I really like about ours are: -Comfy couches scattered about for parents to sit on while they are watching their children -A little kitchen area with little picnic tables for children, and big tables for adults -A coffee maker with complimentary coffee for parents (sometimes, this is my motivation for taking my daughter there on Sunday mornings) -A full-sized changing table in a separate room, as opposed to one that… [cont.]

Are there any good indoor trees strong enough for cats to lay in?
Q. I have a bengal kitten who loves to lounge in high places. I've thought about getting a cat tree, but I really don't find them aesthetically appealing at all. I was wondering if it's possible to plant an indoor tree that is nontoxic to cats and also strong and durable enough for him to lounge in/climb. Does that even exist? He will be about 15-20lbs so it will need to have strong branches. Also, the easier it is to take care of, the better.
Asked by ame - Thu Apr 10 12:50:50 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No natural indoor trees are that strong. So, now you have to choose - do you get a cat tree that you don't find appealing at all, but that your cat will love (and I mean cats *love* cat trees)? Or do you deprive your cat of what would quickly become his favorite hangout? One thing cats love about cat trees is that they're covered with carpeting. So, a cat can climb all over it with very secure footing using its claws. Some also have a lot of little nooks for the cat to hide in (something a cat absolutely loves to do). It's also an excellent way to train your cat not to scratch furniture or drapes. When you see the cat scratch something it's not supposed to, pick the cat up and take him to the cat tree. Move his paws in a scratching… [cont.]

How often does an indoor dog should be taken out to pee and poop?
Q. I have an indoor dog about 3+ years old. How often should we take him outside to pee and poop. He never pees or poops in the house, and when we bring him outside he urinates a lot. We take him outside like 2 times a day. Is this ok? I really don't want to damage his urination system.
Asked by gilbert - Wed Nov 12 06:55:52 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Just because they can 'hold it' for several hours, doesn't mean they should. If he's peeing that much, consider that he's holding back more than he should have to. This increases the risk of urinary infections. Ideally a dog should be let out at least every 3-4 hours during the day, and not expected to hold it more than 8-9 hrs overnight.

Asked by Marc - Fri Oct 9 18:46:36 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This is going to be long, but this is stuff you need to know, so read up. First, I'm amazed nobody has asked how big the cans are! Average store-bought canned cat food ranges between 3oz per can, up to approximately 5.5oz per can. Obviously that's a huge difference, so this isn't a question of "how many cans", but rather of "how much volume". However! There's the QUALITY of food to consider as well, which is what really counts. High-quality canned cat food with real meat as the primary ingredient will require less volume because the cat is able to more efficiently process the moisture and nutrients contained therein without having to pass through filler and grains. This means they will start to feel satisfied sooner, and eat less per… [cont.]

How can you make indoor daffodill bulbs grow at any time of year?
Q. I have daffodill bulbs in an indoor plant pot. They just died after looking beautiful in my kitchen window. Do I have to wait a year for them to flower again or is there a way of tricking them into believing it is summer again?
Asked by Simon - Tue Jun 19 21:49:38 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In order to 'force' a daffodil bulb to flower indoors you have to first pot them up in a bulb pan. It could be 8" across & you can put as many bulbs in it that you can fit. Use good potting mix & water after planting. The bulbs then need to be placed in a cool area for 8-12 weeks. An old fridge would be good. Keep it above freezing, around 38 degrees. You may see some growth, but you don't need to do anything to them. After 12 weeks, remove it to a sunny location & water it well. The yellow growth will turn green & buds should start coming up.

How do you find an indoor cat that escaped outside?
Q. The cat is about 1 year old or so. He has been mainly an indoor cat. He escaped about 24 hours ago. We looked for several hours yesterday with no luck. We have a live trap from the animal shelter set up. We set out some food and sprinkled catnip around the area. My major concern is that a bad winter storm is approaching this area. It is supposed to snow 1" - 3" tonight and then an additional 5"- 8" tomorrow. Any other advice or hints?
Asked by parrothead47905 - Mon Feb 12 11:52:38 2007 - - 20 Answers - 0 Comments

A. My best advice is to keep calling for him and continue to search the area. Check with the shelter daily. Setting out food is a good idea but make sure it is in plain view so if he comes to eat you can look at a window and notice your cat easily. I would ask some neighbors as well. When a cat escapes they can be hard to find. I hope you find your kitty.

How do I keep my indoor plants alive all winter?
Q. My herbs did great outside this year and I'm bringing small samples to keep them inside and hopefully to plant outside next year. My plants tend to die indoors. What is the proper way to take care of indoor plants through the winter? Oh, these are herbs I'm talking about.
Asked by justmythoughts - Mon Sep 15 17:47:13 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Not all herbs are perennials, so some will die (or go to seed) after 1 or maybe 2 seasons - there's nothing you can do about this. Certain herbs will come back next year, so you can just leave them out over the winter. Otherwise I'm not sure if herbs will do well brought indoors after a summer outside - although I know that it is possible to grow an herb garden on a VERY sunny windowsill (many hours of sun a day)... but you may need to have grown these indoors right from the start. Don't overwater in the winter, I've heard that some plants go into "sleep mode" and need less moisture.

Asked by snow - Sun Nov 2 20:16:32 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Many (or even most) Germans like an indoor temperature of 21-22 C in their living rooms, and in their bedrooms, some 16-18 C. That's way too cold for me. I prefer 25-26 C in BOTH, but most Germans will tell you that it's healthier to sleep in cooler rooms. I don't agree with that. In flats with central heating, you'll maybe encounter something that's called the "Nachtabsenkung": lowering the temperature of the central heating at night to save, as they say, energy. Which is absolute BS, as it doesn't save anything, because the big water boiler has to be heated up again the next morning, consuming more energy than is saved. But in some houses, they'll automatically switch the heating to a low temperature between 10 pm and 5 am. Sometimes it… [cont.]
