Why are there no ferries from the UK to mid or southern france?
Q. There are ferries to Spain, why not to La Rochelle or Biarritz? The ports I mentioned are indeed on the west coast, in mid and southern france. The best wine and wineries (arguably) comes from the south of france not the north. In the EU, personal transportation of wine and spirits is exempt from import duties, so it is much cheaper and better quality than the UK. You can't take much wine on the train and definitely not on a plane. It's a 10 hour drive back up the northern ports, which is a long way without an overnight stop, especially with children There are ferries to Northern Spain (Plymouth to Santander), so there is demand
