From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. The Caribbean (pronounced /ˌkærɨˈbiːən/ or /kəˈrɪbiən/; Dutch Caraïben (help·info); French: Caraïbe or more commonly Antilles; Spanish: Caribe) is a region consisting of the Caribbean Sea, its islands (most of which enclose the sea), and the surrounding coasts. The region is located southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and Northern America, east of Central America, and to the north of South America. Situated largely on the Caribbean Plate, the region comprises more than 7,000 islands, islets, reefs, and cays. These islands, called the West Indies, generally form island arcs that delineate the eastern and northern edges of the Caribbean Sea. These islands are called the West Indies because when Christopher Columbus landed here in 1492 he believed that he had reached the Indies (in Asia). The region consists of the Antilles, divided into the larger Greater Antilles which bound the sea on the north and the Lesser Antilles on the south and east (including the Leeward Antilles), and the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands, which are in fact in the Atlantic Ocean north of Cuba, not in the Caribbean Sea. Geopolitically, the West Indies are usually reckoned as a subregion of North America and are organised into 27 territories including sovereign states, overseas departments, and dependencies. At one time, there was a short-lived country called the Federation of the West Indies composed of ten English-speaking Caribbean territories, all of which were then UK dependencies. The region takes its name from that of the Carib, an ethnic group present in the Lesser Antilles and parts of adjacent South America at the time of European contact. In the English-speaking world, someone from the Caribbean is usually referred to as a "West Indian," although the phrase "Caribbean person" is sometimes used. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What would be the best Royal Caribbean cruise ship? Q. My family consists of my parents who are 57 and 51, my brother who will be 21 at the time and myself at 18 years old. I'm planning our vacation for this summer and we're taking a Royal Caribbean cruise somewhere in the Caribbean--probably the western islands. It's our first cruise but we have no idea which ship is a good choice since there are so many of them..any suggestions? or even a different cruise line if you think a different one would be better for my family. Asked by Katie - Sun Mar 4 20:43:15 2007 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would say any of their Voyager class ships--these include the Explorer, Adventure, Navigator, and Mariner of the seas. Also I heard the Freedom is great. I have been on a 7 cruises and the Adventure of the Seas was favorite, however it sails the southern Caribbean out of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The best thing to do is find a destination you want to go to and go from there. Answered by bandit - Sun Mar 4 22:21:17 2007 Royal Caribbean cruise transportation from Orlando International Airport to Port Canaveral? Q. Can anyone tell me the best/cheapest way to get from Orlando International Airport to wherever Royal Caribbean launches their cruise ships from Port Canaveral? Some kind of shuttle thing would be great, or if you have any idea about a rough estimate for cab service or a bus. Thanks. Asked by jorgeyankee - Sun Oct 21 14:33:33 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. We did this is February and will be doing it again in April. The shuttles are expensive upwards of $100 each way. We rented a car at Orlando for $30, dropped it off in Port Canaveral and took the free shuttle to the ship! It was easy and cheap. We used Enterprise and had no problem. We did the exact reverse for our way back. A huge benefit of having a car is you can stop at the store get a few things for the cruise, take your time etc. We had a lot of time between the cruise getting in and our fight out so we drove around the Canaveral Area, spotting great wild life and beautiful beaches. This is the cheapest way to go, maybe not as convenient as a shuttle but much more flexible too. You can e-mail me if you need to. Q. What is your favorite Pirates of the Caribbean movie and why? i love them all but i don't have a favorite. i just want to see what your opinions are. Asked by Sarah - Fri Jun 26 21:57:12 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Ahh, I love those movies. Mainly, I loved the first one, but I also loved the third one with all the drama. Still, the original one would be the best in my opinion. The second one was a winner too, but I loved the scene with all the Captain Jack Sparrows on that ship in Davey Jones' Locker. :) Ahhh, just so bizarre. They're great movies. On --> The first movie got 8.0 out of 10. The second movie got 7.3 out of 10. The third movie got 7.0 out of 10. I think the first was everyone's favorite. And good news, pirate fans! POTC4 is coming... soon... ish?... As in, 2012. Ugggh, why so long?? Well, it's cool you're a fan! Yay pirates! I hope the new one will be good!! :D Answered by Me - Fri Jun 26 22:10:31 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "caribbean" Food Fests in the Caribbean
