How does blackberry internet differ from that of a regular cell phone?
Q. I have Verizon and am confused on how blackberry's work versus regular cell phones. If you turn off internet access on a blackberry, you cannot make phone calls or text messages. Why is this? Does their internet function on a different frequency? Can anyone explain how a blackberry works?

A. Firstly, the answer has nothing to do with the question that was asked. Secondly, you can have the data plan off the phone on a CDMA network as long as the provisioning features are on the account. You won't see EX, you would only see 1x instead of the usual 1XEV on a CDMA networks like Verizon. I should know coz I am a Tech Solutions Expert. But more importantly, to answer the real question. Will my Blackberry Bold automatically select a WiFi network to browse the internet when one is available?
Q. If there is both a 3G network as well as WiFi network available (and connected) will my Blackberry Bold preferentially connect to the internet via the WiFi connection? If so, is there a special set-up required?

A. If you set it to auto look. Personally, I think it is a pain, I would rather manually search when I want. Go to Network setting and you'll see it there.

How do screen spam on your Blackberry which is connected to the company server?
Q. Presently the email comes into the company server and the traffic is sent to the Blackberry service before going through the spam blocker on the server. This results in tons of spam going to the Blackberry!
Asked by Spartan73 - Mon Oct 13 17:28:56 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Here is one method, but it may not work if you are on a company (BES) account. If you are just getting company email through your regular BIS account this will work for sure to block your spam.

Does Blackberry poll the server every fifteen minutes to update the information for the user?
Q. Some say the Blackberry goes to the server every 15 minutes to check for any data in the email, this process is called 'Polling' and others reveal that the BlackBerry does not poll the server to look for updates. It simply waits for the update to arrive and notifies the user when it does. What is the correct answer?

A. The Blackberry, like every cell type of device polls. But it does not mean what you describe. The polling that takes place is a "keep-alive" type of data packet. The purpose is to let the network know where the phone is located physically on the network at any given time. As a user moves from place to place the cell towers keep a record of those movements so that when you want to make a call or send data of any type you will already be connected and ready go. This is how you get an "always on" connection. The polling intervals vary by providers but they are generally constant IE every so many seconds or nanoseconds. If the network receives a piece of data destine for your device, the network sends the data immediately after it… [cont.]

Is BlackBerry Messenger compatible with someone who lives in a different country/continent?
Q. A friend of mine lives in Australia and wants to get a BlackBerry so we can talk on BBM. First of all, is this even possible? And if so, is it free of charge aside from the basic BlackBerry plan fee?

A. That is the joys of BBM, It works no matter where you are in the world with anyone anywhere in the world! (as long as you have normal cell reception). As well, there are no additional charges, such as roaming or long distance charges while using BBM, unless your in a roaming area already.

A. Go into your Yahoo account, go into options, then mail options and deselect the "Save a copy of the message in the Sent folder" box. You can also send directly from your BlackBerry but have your Yahoo address as the return address. This can be set up in your BlackBerry email account options, either from the phone itself or by going to your account online.

A. You should be able to sync your blackberry via bluetooth, IR, or USB cable. You should have a disc from RIM that has a synchronization program for your computer. Find the disc and install the program and that should be able to work.

How do you download stuff on your blackberry pearl?
Q. I have a blackberry pearl and a 8gb micro SD card in it. When I download stuff using the desktop manager onto the blackberry pearl it does not appear on the phone after I disconnect it from the computer. Do I need to format the memory card some how and then can I download stuff on it using the desktop manager. Or is there another easier way of putting stuff onto my blackberry pearl. If there is can you please guide me with step-by-step instructions on how to do it.

A. It isn't very often that you need to format the SD cards as they usually always come formatted and all. Just to make sure you can format it anyway. To do this go to Settings > Advanced Options > Media Card. You then click the Blackberry/Menu button and select Format Card. Don't worry about using the Desktop Manager software - this only complicates a simple task. Instead plug your Blackberry into your computer and on your Blackberry it will ask you to turn on Mass Storage, click Yes. On your PC go to My Computer and under Devices with Removable Storage there will be a drive which is your media card. Double click this and then move you downloads into the appropriate folders (Music, Video etc.)

A. Install the desk top manager if not already installed. There are two ways of doing this: 1. Attach the device to your computer and open up the desk top manager. Select the "Media" icon. Under "Media Manager" select start. This will open up the "Media Manager". In the lower left you will see "My Devices." You will see two locations listed for your device. Device memory and Media card. Under each you will see the folders listed for both. If the pictures are stored in the device memory select the picture folder under device memory, if they are stored on the media card, select the picture folder listed under "Media card."
