OK well I used to live right on the cliff at Barton and then moved to right on the cliff at Milford. Both beaches are shingly and have groynes protruding into the sea to prevent long shore drift. These are made of wood and concrete I think. When I was there 8 years ago there were only cliffs defending the town (with paths that led down to the beach), which were eroding quite a lot. In fact there is a cafe at Barton that was so close to the cliff edge they had to rope off part of the garden. The first dwellings are about 100 yards back from the edge of the cliff and are a mixture of flat roofed houses, ordinary houses and a lot of flats. Milford has a load of village shops fairly near the cliff but a bit further back.
