How do I start a successful trucking business?
Q. My brother told me that it was easy to start out with one big rig, and that I would rake in lots of income. I'm a little skeptic of the idea, but we found a good truck for a good deal. He said for me to invest some money in making my own business and that I would get it in return, plus more. Do you think it's a good idea to start my own business?Or should I find something else to invest in?I'm trying to educate myself about the trucking business and the whole "class A" thing.I appreciate any good answers and comments. Thanks.

A. well most companies will only train inexperienced drivers only if they already have their CDL just no over the road experience, but you can go to a trucking school and then get hired on at a company and the company will pay for the school as long as you stay at the company for a certain period of time, only company i know of that has a school within the company that would hire someone with no CDL and then you go through their little school is Schneider, you'll just have to get the CDL permit b4 going to them, here's the link to the company... and here's the link to tell about the little school within the company... hope all this helps

What are some long haul trucking companies in PNW that will pay for CDL training?
Q. My husband has nine years of driving experience as a courier, and is looking to get into long haul trucking, but we cannot afford to pay for CDL license training. Does anyone know of any trucking companies in the Pacific Northwest area (Washington, Oregon) in the United States that pay for driver training and CDL licensing? Thanks very much!

A. Have him try Swift they have a dedicated heavy haul for Costco out of Sumner. That is where Costco and the Swift yard is located. Try Gordon Trucking Inc. also out of Sumner. J. B Hunt might be hiring don't know. You also want to try May Trucking they are just south of Portland. Really any of the major carriers will put someone thru school. I hope this will help the two of you make a choice...

How is the trucking industry doing today?
Q. Are trucking companies hiring or letting go of their employees? Is that industry growing or slowing down? How many jobs have been lost or gained? Is it a good idea to do truck driving in 2009 and in coming years?
Asked by Julio C - Fri Jan 9 09:38:23 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Many small trucking companies are going out of business now while larger companies are surviving. There are plenty of loads out there for the O/O but they are significantly cheaper than before. If you are looking for work for one of the giants like Schneider, Warner, CR England, or similar you will be able to find work but don't expect to make more than $35,000 a year for the first 2 - 3 years at least.

How is chemistry used in the trucking industry?
Q. Support your decision with a convincing statement about how the trucking industry uses chemistry and which aspects of chemistry are important to know.
Asked by The Zen Master - Tue May 8 15:28:17 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The trucking industry uses chemistry for safety, power, and grip. First, the chemistry of truck tires is vital to how much grip can be provided and how they perform when cold; rubber that freezes easily won't grab the road in the winter. Trucks use diesel fuel to power their engines, since the properties of diesel combustion are advantageous for hauling heavy loads long distances. The compression ignition of a diesel means very high compression ratios, which correspond to high effieciencies. Finally, while hauling a variety of substances, it is vital to understand how to handle them safely and how to deal with a spill. The different characteristics of different chemicals and fuels determine how much can be hauled, what it is hauled in, [cont.]

Can I get out of contract or switch to another trucking company?
Q. I have to drive for Swift trucking for 14 months since they paid for my school. But I was told by a driver with Schnieder trucking that I can switch my contract over to them and still pay off the loan. I know if I were to quit or just not show up I would owe them, but I think I can make better money with another company. Truckers make good money, but I will be broke for the first year, I'm sure.

A. Go to Free Advice on a comnputer engine search. They allows you to post a question to a labor lawyer. A lawyer would have to read the contract to see if there is an out. Probably, if you leave, you would be responsibnle for paying for the training you recdeieved at an anormously high rate. Let a lawyer who understands labor law in your state tell you if ytou could leave without poenalty, and if there is a penalty, can you be sued.

Are there any class A CDL trucking companies that will school an inexperienced husband and wife team together?
Q. We have no trucking schools near home and think that the best way to get both of us cdls would be through a trucking company that offers schooling and training, but are there any that will train us together as a team?

A. welcome to the crazy world of trucking... they probably wont train you as a team, each of you seperate most likely. all the big trucking companies out there (schneider, jb hunt, swift, werner, cr england, etc.) will train you with a time commitment (ie. schneider wants you to stay for a year) and they train you for free from scratch. now you might be able to get back together with your husband after both of you are done with training, and then drive together. i would call the respective company to find out what their policy regarding husband-wife team is. hope this helps, good luck

Is it legal for all the trucking companies in the United States to organise for a fuel surcharge?
Q. If all the trucking companies imposed a fuel surcharge of one dollar per loaded mile, to be given to the person that pays for the fuel at the pump and for every truckload to be no less than two dollars per loaded mile. A. Run while you can!!! The trucking industry has a HUGE driver shortage right now. Insurance companies are placing more strict requirements upon their policyholders (I can't hire a driver if they have more than 3 points on their record. That's 2 moving violations in 3 years, for those that may not know!) . Also, you are talking about a "career" that requires the driver to be away from home for extended periods of time, for maybe ok pay. Also add the expected influx of trucks hitting America from Mexico, and the competition those companies will be hitting the States with. As well as the rising cost of fuel, insurance, maintenance. And let's not forget all the governmental pressures and influences. It is a very thankless industry. (In that… [cont.]

A. Depending on your local state laws, you MAY be able to drive truck inside your home state, but you MUST be 21 to drive a commercial vehicle across state lines. Many companies won't even consider hiring you until you're 23, due to their insurance policies.

A. Try this: DAC is a subscription service, so too expensive for the individual to use for a single report.
