how long does it take for a new refrigerator/freezer to get cold enough for food storage?
Q. I am replacing my old refrigerator/freezer. When the new one is delivered, do I need to place my refrigerator/freezer contents in some sort of transition cold storage (eg. a neighbor's freezer) while waiting for the new appliance to reach the right temperature?

A. You should leave it for at least 24hrs to make sure its ok and it to settle. Just put a ice tray in wen you think it might be ready when the ice freezes you know its ready simple.

What are the disadvantages of using cold storage facilities? please help as i urgently need to know this?
Q. i'd like to know the limitations of using cold storage facilities such as fridges.
Asked by Walter A - Mon Apr 6 17:17:17 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Cold storage retards deterioration of food rather than stops it altogether. although for most practical purposes this is OK, the taste and texture of food is eventually damaged and the eating qualities affected. Not all food freezes successfully - some foods are affected by the anomalous expansion of water (the peculiar property of water in that it occupies more space when frozen than when liquid). All this freezing capability comes at a cost - fridges use energy and produce surplus heat. (Until recently they were made of not very eco-friendly materials). The expenditure on energy has to be balanced against the potential waste of food which might otherwise spoil (notwithstanding this can be readily reused as compost).

What di I need a cold water storage for?
Q. A renovation plus new extension get new plumbing, new electrical etc. A high efficient combination gas boiler with integrated hot wate storage and low energy storage charging pump will be built in. All bathrooms new. The builder wants to build in a cold water storage in the attic, because it is 'common practice'. Do I need that? What is it exactly for? Can I avoid having it and feed directly from the mains, as it is done in other countries on the continent? Whatever is needed could be done now, as everything will be renewed anyway.
Asked by AHA - Thu Mar 12 16:27:57 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No you dont. However we often fit one in larger houses to feed the toilets only so if the mains water ever failed then at least you would have sanitation for a while. I can see of no other reason.

Does cold storage have any affect on golf clubs?
Q. I store my clubs in my unheated garage during the winter. I was told today that I should store them in a heated area as the cold isn't good for the shafts. Does anyone know if this statement has any substance. It does get to 20 below zero here sometimes.
Asked by hagridxxxx - Fri Jan 30 18:41:21 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Diesel has the right idea. According to both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine- extreme cold and heat will degrade the epoxy that holds the club together, cause the grip to dry out and crack and disrupt the integrity of a graphite shaft. The Golf Guru for GD also said it was just plain dumb to keep them outside (in your garage or storage shed) or in the trunk of your car. Clubs are expensive, and risking theft or unnecessary damage should be avoided.

A. There are set guidelines for your workplace under NIOSH. You must be provided with protective clothing and the time you spend in the cold storage must be monitored. You must have adequate breaks. You have identified risks that should be in the hazard register and you should have had adequate training about these things. Your employer has to train you adequately and must supply the protective equipment. The symptoms you describe will happen if you are not protected adequately. Gd Dip OSH, Massey University NZ

On Halo 3 I got cold storage, herioc, and legendary map but some playlists don't let me play. What should I do?
Q. Also what are DLC maps?
Asked by Anton L - Fri Mar 20 16:36:37 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. DLC are downloadable content meaning maps needed in order to play that specific playlist. If you already have all the Maps then you should be able to play most of the playlists. As for the others some playlist require the Mythic Map Pack. It's can be downloaded if you bought Halo Wars. If not its release date is April 9. It will be then downloadable on the Market Place. For 800 Microsoft or $10. But if you wanna look at the maps needed to play a specific game. Then just click on the link below. Then click on what game type and it will show what maps are required and more. Good Luck. Hope I helped out.

does anyone work in cold storage and know how long a person is in32 degrees without a break is legal?
Q. I was just wondering because there should be a law to how long before you get a break you could get frostbite
Asked by janet m - Mon Mar 17 13:52:13 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. where are you. letting us know that would go a long way to getting an accurate response. federal laws do not mandate any breaks for adults, except for a few hazardous occupations such as mining. some states do require breaks but most just follow federal laws. OSHA regulations do not deal with the temperatures you describe they deal with colder temperatures but do make "suggestions" for refrigerated temperatures. you are not at a temperature that generally poses a health risk other then being uncomfortable.

Cold water storage tank. Should I remove brown sludge build up?
Q. Our water supply comes from a well. We have a cw storage tank that is over 50 years old and though the water was fine until recently, there is a lot of brown sludge inside, on the sides and bottom. The water got contaminated by a fuel leak last week and the tank is nearly empty. Should I clean the sludge out before the tank fills up again? or is it harmless?

A. if its that old chances are its zinc coated and this will have rusted in places, especially under the gunge. to be on the safe side get a fibre glass tank with a liner and replce it. its not a big job and you will be able to "make up" plumbing fittings from your local merchants you,ll taste the difference in water quality

Q. My 'normal' fridge temp is 40, what is the best energy saving temp that will still preserve leftovers
Asked by m fred - Thu Nov 22 18:48:27 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Actually it's 45 deg F. That's the standard by wich most all refrigerated goods' shelf time is measured. 38 to 40 works much better though and makes a negligable difference in energy consumption.

How do you work out the capacity of a cold water storage tank?
Q. i need the workings out for example 2x3x3
Asked by mr.plumber plumber - Mon Feb 26 06:18:33 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Calculate the total volume by multiplying length x width x height in inches, then multiply by 2/3 to get ideal capacity - this allows for the fact the tank does not fill to the top and the inlet valve is normally around 2/3 the way up. Finally divide by 277 to get capacity in gallons. Calculate volume - 2 ft x 3ft x 3ft = 24in x 36in x 36in = 31104 cubic inches. Multiply by 2/3 to get ideal capacity - 31104 cin x 2/3 = 20736 cubic inches. Convert to gallons - 20736 / 277 = approximately 75 gallons.
